SURRENDER: Hang on Tightly, Let go Lightly OPENS AT ART & LIGHT MARCH 7TH
Opening on Friday, March 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM is my joint show with Morgan Walker at Art & Light, available on website and in the gallery. The show runs from until March 29, 2025.
Our work explores the cycles of life, using flowers as a shared metaphor for the impermanence of all things and the unique significance of each stage in the journey. We are drawn to florals not merely for their aesthetic appeal but for their embodiment of the dualities of life and constant change that we all experience and often try to control. In this series we purposely take on the flower for their ability to embody this duality: growth and decay, resilience and fragility. Together, we reflect on the interplay between control and release—how we often cling tightly to what we know, yet must eventually let go to allow life to unfold as it is meant to. This delicate balance between holding on and surrendering reveals the profound strength in embracing both effort and ease.
We invite our viewers to join us in viewing flowers as a metaphor for the fleeting moments that define our existence and urge you to reflect on the balance between holding on and letting go. Throughout our art, you will see transparent washes; bold, heavy-bodied paint; soft, gestural marks; and precise, deliberate lines and pokes working together to reflect the tension between control and surrender. This approach reflects intuition and intentionality, mirroring the delicate balance between effort and ease in both life and art.
Through this collaborative exhibition, we hope to inspire viewers to look beyond the surface of florals, to see them not just as decorative forms, but as profound symbols of strength, transformation, and the ever-changing rhythms that shape our lives.
